Three of them were killed in the assault in the central city of Palmyra.
It is the first since the fall of former President Bashar Assad a year ago and Washington has rushed to accuse the Islamic State.
The new government in Damascus has expanded its ties with the US administration and joined a coalition to fight the group and its sleeper cells.
