Two Israeli embassy staff have been killed in a shooting in the US capital.
The incident took place outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC.
The museum was hosting an annual event meant to be a reception for young Jewish professionals.
The two victims were leaving the event when they were killed.
Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old man from Chicago.
Authorities say he was observed pacing outside the museum before the shooting started.
Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, said the deceased were a “beautiful couple” that had been planning to get married.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump condemned the killing of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, DC, a short while ago, saying they were “based obviously on anti-Semitism”.
“Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA. Condolences to the families of the victims. So sad that such things as this can happen!” he added.
Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou Castro has more on this developing story from Washington, DC.
Richard Weitz, a security expert and analyst based in the US capital, described the attack as a “well-planned assassination”.
