US Secretary of State Rubio holds end-of-year press conference at the State Department in Washington.
Rubio says countries interested in supporting peace efforts in Gaza want to know first what the mandate is and what the “funding mechanism” will be.
“I feel very confident that we have a number of nation states … who are willing to step forward and be a part of the stabilisation forces,” he said. “I think the next step here is announcing the board of peace, announcing the Palestinian technocratic group that will help provide daily governance.
“Once that’s in place, that will allow us to firm up the stabilisation force, including how it’s going to be paid for, what their rules of engagement, what their role will be in demobilisation and so forth.”
