On Monday evening, a tragic car-ramming incident in China’s Zhuhai city resulted in numerous fatalities, with details emerging only 24 hours later. Residents expressed their condolences by leaving flowers and lighting candles at a stadium, though authorities swiftly removed these tributes. Social media images showed many casualties, but government censors quickly deleted these clips. The 62-year-old perpetrator, allegedly driven by anger over a divorce settlement, was arrested at the scene with self-inflicted wounds. The incident evoked memories of a recent stabbing of a Japanese schoolboy in Shenzhen, which similarly garnered public sympathy and opposition to violence.
