The Dominican Republic has authorised the US to use some of its airports for strategic refuelling purposes—presumably for its aircraft carriers in the region. The announcement came as US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth was in Santo Domingo to shore up cooperation on tackling drug trafficking in the Caribbean. US warships remain deployed in unprecedented numbers off the coast of Venezuela.
