SpaceX has disabled more than 2,500 Starlink devices linked to online scam centres in Myanmar’s KK Park, on the Thai border.
Rights groups say Starlink technology has enabled Chinese crime syndicates to exploit Myanmar’s instability.
The issue extends across Southeast Asia, with Cambodia recently deporting 64 South Koreans accused of involvement in scam operations.
Seoul believes over 1,000 South Koreans are among 200,000 people working in such centres region-wide.
A murdered South Korean student’s remains were repatriated this week, prompting new travel bans. The UN says these scam hubs, which emerged during the pandemic, generate billions of dollars annually and often trap young workers through coercion and violence.

Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford reports.
